A Monthly Meeting.
This is held on the fourth Tuesday afternoon of each month except December, at Shifnal Village Hall, Aston Street, from 2.00 until about 3.45. There is usually a speaker, selected by reputation and topic, to provide a balance of topics over the year. The meeting ends with a cup of tea and a biscuit, and a time to chat. A following page lists the programme for the present year.
Special Interest Groups.
These meet in many cases in members' homes, but there are also outside activities, such as visits to gardens, houses, theatres or other places of interest, and walks. Generally each activity has a special slot each month, to avoid clashes, and enabling members to belong to more than one group if they wish. The list of groups changes, as groups decline with removals or increasing age of members or leaders, and new groups begin on a regular basis. The current list offers the following activities, and if you have a special interest not included here it may be possible to begin a group to cater for it.
The University of the Third Age (U3A) is a national and international association for people over 50 and not in full-time gainful employment. It began in France in 1972, and in England in 1982. The Wrekin Branch began in 1989. At present our members come from all directions, -from the outskirts of Wolverhampton, from Bridgnorth, from Telford and from Newport.
No qualifications are needed to join and none are offered. The main aim of the U3A is to help Third Agers keep mentally and physically active in the company of like-minded people.

If you wish to join, the best way is to come to one of the Tuesday afternoon meetings. We are happy for you to attend for two or three meetings to "sample" us, before making up your mind.
Annual subscription is ten pounds (Twelve for new members)and a charge of one pound for each meeting attended, towards the cost of refreshments and hall. Visitors are asked to pay one pound fifty for each meeting. The interest groups are self-funding and, in the case of meetings in houses, will often involve no more than contributing towards the costs of refreshments.
