Mah Jong Group

The mah jong group meets every second week at the organiser’s home to enjoy several games of this fascinating Chinese tile game.  The group is 12 strong but it is more usual to have eight players each time.

There are many variations of the rules of play, especially in the methods of scoring but more recently the International Tournament rules have been adopted, and rather simplified.  The game has some similarities to rummy and is not complicated although there are tricky rules regarding the seating and methods of drawing tiles from the four walls which have been set up.  The real complications are in the many scoring hands which can be obtained using the thirteen tiles in one’s hand plus the last tile collected.

Learners are always welcome to add to the numbers and enjoyment of this game.

Folk Dancing Group

We meet on the second Thursday of each month, 2 - 4 pm at St Andrew’s Youth Club, Bridgnorth Road, Shifnal. We are a friendly group who always welcome new dancers and we ensure that everyone has a partner. We don’t take ourselves too seriously and there is much laughter.

We are very fortunate to have “live” music for our dances from Pauline Hudson on keyboard and Frank Loach on piano accordion.

The dances range from “set” dances to “longways” dances, as well as circle and square dances. The dances are walked through first and then “called” as each dance progresses.

For good exercise, good company and good fun, why not come and join us. Jenny Johnson

Gardening Group

The group enjoys being out and about visiting gardens and Nurseries then back home to our own gardens to put ideas into practice. Most are keen gardeners but all share a love of gardening and visit other gardens to enjoy them, discuss them and appreciate others’ efforts.                                                                                  Eileen Dowell
